A drug bust, 4 forgotten souls & a fund gone in 9 days 👀
Good morning, Athens County. A routine traffic stop turned into a major fentanyl bust last week — proof that sometimes a dog's nose is the most effective law enforcement tool in the room. On a more tender note, the community is preparing to give a proper farewell to four unclaimed souls, which is exactly the kind of quiet, dignified gesture that says a lot about a place. And Athens County is putting $335,000 toward programs for older residents — though the Senior Emergency Assistance fund ran dry in just nine days, which tells you everything about the need out there.
When you're ready to step outside, the Athens Summer Family Concert and Gender-Affirming Fall Fest both land Thursday the 25th. Fresh real estate listings are waiting inside too.

2 arrested in Athens Co. narcotics bust
🚨 A traffic stop K-9 sniff led to a major fentanyl bust. Investigators discovered a bulk amount of suspected fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, and cash. William Evans, 42, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, while Stacy Dailey, 49, was taken in on an active theft warrant. Commissioners fund programs for older adults in Athens County
👴 Athens County is investing $335,000 to help its older residents thrive. The funding, drawn from grant money and the Athens County Senior Services Levy, supports three programs including a Senior Emergency Assistance program that was so popular it closed just nine days after opening on Sept. 1, 2026, having received nearly double the applications it could fund. County commissioners are now considering a lottery system to distribute those emergency grants more fairly. The Athens City-County Health Department will also revive its Healthy Aging Community Grants, awarding $10,000 each to 10 local organizations, and plans to launch free Healthy Aging Assessment Clinics in 2027 to connect residents with services.
