Dogs, books & brews β your fall just got interesting π
β
Good morning, Franklin County. A child's courage turned a devastating situation into a police investigation β after a young caller dialed 911 on Bannon Court, officers discovered two adults dead in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide. It's the kind of story that lingers. Closer to home, Columbus City Schools landed a 2.5-star state report card, lowest among major central Ohio districts β though an 84.6% graduation rate and a half-star climb suggest the district is slowly finding its footing despite $100 million in budget cuts over the past year.
On a lighter note, fall is serving up some genuinely fun plans β the Columbus Coffee Festival and a Bookshop pop-up are just around the corner, with a PupArt charity auction to follow. Fresh Real Estate listings are waiting inside too.

Columbus City Schools breaks down its state report card rating; what grade did it earn?
π Columbus City Schools earned just 2.5 stars out of five on its state report card. The district ranked lowest among the 15 largest central Ohio school districts, tied with Newark City Schools, though leaders celebrated a half-star improvement from last year. Bright spots include a record-high graduation rate of 84.6% for the Class of 2026 and a one-star jump in progress. The good news is shadowed by serious financial strain β the district has now approved $100 million in budget cuts over the past year, eliminating hundreds of positions. Leaders say expanding pre-K enrollment is key to improving the district's lowest-scoring area: early literacy. Read more
