Floods, Fed drama, and a book club that's nothing like grandma's 📚
Good morning, Meigs County. The rain didn't mess around yesterday — flooding swept through Pomeroy, Racine, Rutland, Middleport, and Syracuse, keeping emergency crews on their toes and turning routine commutes into something far more stressful. If you're still navigating road closures or outages, stay patient and stay safe out there.
On the national front, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time since 2023, which sent Wall Street into a bit of a spiral and had the White House calling it "rather unfortunate" — a very diplomatic way of saying nobody's thrilled. Markets slid, Treasury yields climbed, and yet consumers somehow kept spending. Classic. When you're ready for something cheerier, the events section has book club, quilting, and needlework on deck this week, plus fresh local real estate listings inside.

"The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?"
— Psalm 27:1
This reminds us that with God’s protection we can face each day’s challenges confidently, knowing we have no reason to be frightened.
