From car to cap & gown — this story will wreck you 🥹
Good morning, Franklin County. Twenty-five years and 220 degrees later, a Columbus nonprofit called Scholarship Opportunities for Success is proof that the right amount of support — real support, not a $500 consolation prize — can genuinely change a life. One recipient went from living in her car to graduating Ohio State with a neuroscience degree. Meanwhile, Columbus builders are going green in a different way, swapping steel and concrete for mass timber in a new student housing complex that's as sustainable as it is striking.
On the markets, Berkshire Hathaway gave homebuilder Lennar an unexpected boost — fun timing to browse those fresh Real Estate listings inside. The Crew host Inter Miami on the 27th, Western Pottery Painting is this Thursday, and Sports scores are all waiting for you too.

News | Mass timber's new frontier grows in Ohio student housing complex
🪵 Columbus just hit a milestone in eco-friendly construction. Builders in Ohio are using mass timber — wood sourced from native North American forests — as a sustainable alternative to traditional commercial building materials in a new student housing complex. The project reflects a growing trend across the continent, as developers seek greener construction methods to reduce environmental impact. Mass timber is prized for its lower carbon footprint compared to steel and concrete, making it an increasingly popular choice for large-scale developments. Read more
Ohio nonprofit marks 25 years of helping women finish college
🎓 An Ohio nonprofit has helped over 220 women earn degrees in 25 years. Scholarship Opportunities for Success, a volunteer-run Columbus organization, provides up to $7,500 annually to cover tuition, books, childcare, and transportation for women facing hardship. Co-founder Clare Anderson launched SOS after witnessing a struggling woman receive just a $500 scholarship — and knowing she needed far more. One recipient, Justice Niezgoda, once lived in her car before SOS covered more than half her Ohio State tuition; she graduated in Dec. 2025 with a neuroscience degree and plans to become a physician assistant.
