Good morning, Jackson County. Royalty has been crowned. Grant Walker and Brandi Smittle are Oak Hill High School's 2026 Homecoming King and Queen, and if that wasn't enough celebration, the Homecoming Dance is still on deck for October 24th. Meanwhile, the Wellston FFA is channeling that same community energy into a car show on November 7th — trophies, music, yard games, and all proceeds going right back to local students. Not a bad week for Jackson County spirit. On State Route 32, a two-vehicle collision was reported with no injuries — thankfully just a fender-bender. On the brighter side of your week, a Witch Hat Workshop, a country concert, and casual dining with Kyle Fields are all waiting in Events. Fresh Real Estate listings and local obituaries are inside too. ☕️ What's Brewing Locally Authorities report no apparent injuries in recent State Route 32 crash 🚗 Two vehicles collided on State Route 32 with no injuries reported. | The ice cream shop that makes money when it's cold | | 28 Wishes sells ice cream in Los Angeles. Below 70°F, sales fall about 20%. The weather is out of their hands. Rent isn't. | So the owners started putting about $20 a day into Kalshi weather markets, taking the cold side. The days that keep customers away now pay something back. | This is hedging. Big companies have done it for decades, buying protection against bad weather, fuel spikes and rising rates. It used to take a broker, a trading desk, and an order size no corner shop could meet. | Kalshi opens it up. Contracts on weather, fuel prices, inflation, tariffs and regulation, starting at a few dollars. Take a position on the outcome that would hurt you. If it hits, the payout softens it. If it doesn't, the contract expires and the good month was the point. | See how other owners are doing it at Kalshi.com/hedging |
