Good morning, Meigs County. An 85-year-old lifelong farmer called it the worst flood she'd ever seen — and she's seen a lot. As Rutland begins the long road to recovery, volunteers are going door to door documenting damage, with federal aid potentially on the horizon. One important heads-up: if someone claiming to be FEMA asks for upfront payment, hang up. That's a scam, full stop. On the national front, Bank of America just wrote a $1.2 billion check to federal regulators, Kroger is leaning on AI to cut 3,000 corporate jobs, and Wall Street's big banks had a mixed quarter. When you're ready for something lighter, October's still delivering — a drawing workshop, comedy night, and Not Your Mama's Book Club are all coming up fast. Fresh listings are inside too. ☕️ What's Brewing Locally Volunteers document Meigs County flood damage in hopes of federal assistance 🌊 An Ohio county's worst flood in living memory leaves residents rebuilding alone. An 85-year-old lifelong farmer described it as the worst flood she'd seen, with water reaching her porch despite her home sitting over 100 yards from the creek. Meanwhile, scammers posing as FEMA representatives are already targeting victims, demanding upfront payments — something officials warn is never how federal aid works. Residents like a local church and a century-old funeral home are pressing forward with costly repairs, struggling to find materials and labor in the remote, economically challenged region.
